Darjeeling Toy Train

Among the toy trains that exude old world charm, the Darjeeling Toy Train is the most fascinating one. The train was immortalized by – Mere Sapno Ki Rani Kab Ayegi – song in Rajesh Khanna starrer Aradhna. The train was conferred World Heritage Status in 1999,and is the second railway line in the world to be declared a UNESCO heritage site.

This was made possible only after Indian Railways in recognition of its social, cultural, economic and industrial value as a lifeline of India, made an application to UNESCO for World Heritage Inscription of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) in 1998.

The Darjeeling Toy Train operated by the DHR has recently been offered to the general public as part of their chartered services. Tourists can now book these trains for large groups and choose their own composition of carriages. The chartered services usually involve steam locomotives.

DHR is offering special Joy Rides between Darjeeling and Ghum, extra pair of trains to/from New Jalpaiguri and Jungle (Heritage) Safari during this tourist season.
