If you have to explore Rajasthan in all its splendours there is nothing better than a weeklong journey on the legendry Palace on Wheels train. The itinerary of Palace on Wheels is designed keeping in mind to offer its guests a world class experience. The Palace on Wheels has an itinerary of 7 nights/8 days. During these eight days, the luxury train passes through some of the beautiful and regal tourist destinations in Rajasthan. Guests are shown beautiful cities, historical monuments, wildlife parks and provided world class hospitality.
The itinerary of Palace on Wheels:
The royal journey on the Palace on Wheels starts from the Delhi Cant. Railway Station at 17.45 hrs, where the guests are accorded with a warm, traditional welcome. Dinner is served onboard at 20.00 hrs and the train chugs its way to Jaipur.
Arrival: 02.00 hrs. Departure 19.30 hrs
Elephants and a Shehnai recitation greet the guests of the Palace on Wheels at the pink city of Jaipur. Here are guests are provided lunch at famous Rambagh Palace Hotel. In Jaipur, guests explore beautiful monuments, which include the most popular Hawa Mahal, the Jantar Mantar (the largest observatory built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh), Nahargarh fort, Amber Fort and many more places. After the trour of the city and its various monuments, guests return to the comforts of Palace on Wheels around 18.30hrs where dinner is served onboard.
Arrival: 08.15 hrs. Departure 23.00 hrs
The next stop of the luxury train is Jaisalmer. The city is famous for its golden fort made of yellow sandstones and its various ornate and opulent havelies. The Patwon ki Haveli and Nathmalji ki Haveli are the finest examples of the skills of its artisans and art of the region. The sand dunes outside Jaisalmer provide an excellent place for camel safari. After lunch on board, guests can enjoy a camel safari in the sand dunes. Dinner is served on the sand dunes under the moonlit sky, which is another highlight of your visit. Cultural program at a hotel in Jaisalmer is another delightful experience that guests enjoy in Jaisalmer, before returning to the Palace on Wheels. The train then leaves for Jodhpur at night.
Arrival: 07.00 hrs. Departure 15.30 hrs
Jodhpur welcomes the luxury train Palace on Wheels next morning. Jodhpur is the second largest city of Rajasthan, which is fortified by a high stonewall with seven gates and several fortresses. The famous tourist spots here include Mehrangarh Fort, Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana. Guests enjoy their lunch at the majestic Umaid Bhawan Palace and return to the Palace on Wheels.
Arrival: 04.00 hrs. Departure: 10.30 Hrs
Sawai Madhopur is the next stop of the Palace on Wheels. The place is well known for Ranthambore National Park, one of the most famous national parks of India. Here guests can enjoy a safari ride to explore a variety of wildlife including tigers, chital, deer, monkeys and other wildlife in the park. Another not to be missed tourist attraction here is Ranthambore Fort. Guests then return to the Palace on Wheels and leave for Chittorgarh.
Arrival Chittorgarh: 15.30 Hrs
Chittorgarh is known as the city of bravery and romance. The 7th century Chittorgarh Fort, has witnessed many wars fought over to protect the dignity and respect of the beautiful queen, Padmini. Other attractions here include Vijay Stambh (Tower of Victory) and the Kirti Stambh (Tower of Fame). After visiting Chittorgarh, you start your journey for Udaipur.
Arrival: 15.30 hrs
The Palace on Wheels train the pulls at Udaipur, the city of lakes. Guests are taken on a tour to the palaces, forts and temples of Udaipur. Travellers also visit the most beautiful master piece of architecture of Udaipur - the Jag Niwas (Lake Palace) and the Jag Mandir, which appear to rise from the blue waters of Lake Pichola. After that you have lunch at the Lake Palace Hotel.
Arrival: 06.30 hrs. Departure 11.45 hrs
The Palace on Wheels arrives in Bharatpur in the early hours of the day. After breakfast, you guests are set to visit the world famous Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary also known as Keoladeo Ghana National Park. Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is famous for its population of birds including the rare migratory birds like Siberian cranes.
Arrival 10.30 AM Departure 11.00 PM
The same day you arrive at Fatehpur Sikri here you can visit a mosque built by the Mughal emperor Akbar, dedicated to Sheikh Salim Chishti, a Muslim Sufi saint. After that you have lunch at a hotel in Agra and visit the wonderful Taj Mahal, constructed by Shah Jahan, as a symbol of love for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. Dinner is served in a five star hotel. Train then leaves for Delhi.
